My poker journey started a year and a half ago. Since then, I’ve only risked my own money to make more money, it just made the most sense. If I ended up making $1000 in profit that night, I would keep all my profits. If I lost $400, It would negatively impact my bankroll by that exact amount. Like many pros, I’ve been busto before, but I managed to get myself out of that situation.
Recently, a group of fans/followers/trolls on the poker forum I avidly post on, have collected $500 for me to play Live at the Bike! in October. It’s a new game to me, a full 100-300 BB buy in game, and it is televised online via live stream as well as Youtube. The blinds will most likely be 3/5. The majority of the “investors” are investing just for the sake of entertainment value (to watch me crash and burn) instead of true monetary value, yet they actually want the majority of the profit if I were to win.
To be quite honest, I do not think this is the best deal for me. They provide $500, I put in $500. The split is 60/40, Me/them. Sounds okay so far right? You have to take into consideration a few factors though.
1. I don’t necessarily need their money, so playing with my own money would mean I get to keep 100% of my own profits instead of owing people a cut.
2. I’m playing a level/field/venue that I am not necessarily comfortable with, so I don’t know exactly what to expect from other players.
3. I don’t want to be known by face to the poker world.
While in a state of pot induced inebriation, I accepted the terms.
This past week, I’ve spent my free time going over Live at the Bike mid-stakes cash games to brush up on my knowledge. I believe that I will surprise my viewers in my ability to play cards.
